Democracy and Good Governance

SDI views the development of effective, democratic, public-sector institutions as a critical component of its mission. It is through improved governance that the benefits of democratic development most directly impact the lives of citizens. Conversely, the inability of public sector institutions in Somalia to function effectively and democratically undermines the sustainability of making democratic reform in our country.

The key focus is to strengthen the institutional capacities of organizations to enhance their role in policy-making. The program also supports organizations in establishing and strengthening working relationships with other actors including CSOs for joint lobbying and advocacy to benefit the overall quality of the policies. Through the program, SDI organizes outreach campaigns with relevant stakeholders and facilitates broad cross-organizational dialogue on issues that come out of the outreach sessions. This is intended to ensure that citizens’ voices are articulated at various levels of policy-making.
